Food and Frontlines: An Audiotour

5 / 12 Ridley Road Market, Kingsland Station end

When the market was young, traders fought each other for pitches along Kingsland High Street. Their cries echoed Queen Boudicca’s warriors rampaging along here on their way to burn London. Around 1926, the Wild East was disciplined. Barrow boys were rounded up into licensed stalls in Ridley Road. But the market and the rumours surrounding it could not be tamed. Look out for characters and foods from around the world.

The tone poem describing Ridley's produce was inspired by market walks with community groups.
